A Republican Senator’s Doubts About U.S. Aid to Ukraine
JD Vance Calls for Halt to Aid, Citing Concerns Over Russia’s Military Capabilities
**Washington, DC** - Republican Senator JD Vance of Ohio has expressed doubts about the continued provision of U.S. aid to Ukraine, amplifying concerns about the potential for escalation with Russia.
In a statement released on Monday, Vance argued that the U.S. lacks the capacity to sustain a long-term conflict with Russia and that further aid to Ukraine could lead to a wider war.
"The math on Ukraine doesn't add up," Vance said. "This is not just a matter of dollars. Fundamentally, we lack the capacity to sustain a protracted conflict with Russia without significant sacrifices on our own part."
Vance's comments have drawn criticism from both Democrats and Republicans, who have accused him of undermining U.S. support for Ukraine.
Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ), the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said that Vance's remarks were "dangerous and irresponsible." Menendez argued that U.S. aid to Ukraine is essential to deterring Russian aggression and protecting American interests in the region.
Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) also condemned Vance's comments, saying that they were "unworthy of a United States senator." Romney said that the U.S. has a moral obligation to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.
