One of his most famous roles was as Hawkeye Pierce in the 1970 black comedy film "MASH," which depicted the lives of army medics during the Korean War. He also garnered critical acclaim for his performance in the 1971 thriller "Klute," for which he received an Oscar nomination.

In his later years, Sutherland continued to impress audiences with his versatility, appearing in films such as "The Hunger Games" trilogy, where he played President Coriolanus Snow, and "The Post," where he portrayed The Washington Post's publisher, Kay Graham.
