Boston Celtics Blow Out Dallas Mavericks in NBA Finals Opener
Celtics Take Early Lead, Cruise to 107-89 Victory
Boston Celtics took an early lead and never looked back, blowing out the Dallas Mavericks 107-89 in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday night.
The Celtics led by as many as 33 points in the second half, shooting 51.9% from the field and 41.3% from three-point range. Jayson Tatum led the way for Boston with 29 points, followed by Jaylen Brown with 24 points.
Luka Dončić led the Mavericks with 20 points, but he was held to just 6-of-18 shooting. Kristaps Porzingis added 14 points and Spencer Dinwiddie scored 11 points.
The Celtics took control of the game early, jumping out to a 10-point lead in the first quarter. They extended their lead to 17 points in the second quarter, and they led by 21 points at halftime.
The Mavericks made a run in the third quarter, cutting the Celtics' lead to 10 points. But the Celtics responded with a 10-0 run to put the game away.
Game 2 of the NBA Finals is scheduled for Sunday night in Boston.
