Attorney General to Briefly Step Down
Attorney General Merrick Garland will undergo back surgery this weekend and will briefly hand over his duties to Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
Minimally Invasive Procedure
The surgery is expected to take approximately 90 minutes and will be performed on Saturday. According to a statement from the Justice Department, the procedure is minimally invasive and is intended to treat spinal stenosis, a narrowing of the spinal canal.
Resumption of Duties
The Attorney General is expected to resume his regular duties next week after a brief period of recovery.
