Texas State Rep. Jasmine Crockett Wins Democratic Nomination for U.S. House Seat
Crockett, 41, defeated Jessica Cisneros in a runoff election on May 31, 2022.
She will now face Republican incumbent Ronny Jackson in the November general election.
Jasmine Felicia Crockett (born March 29, 1981) is an American lawyer and politician who has served as the U.S. Representative for Texas's 37th congressional district since 2023. She is a member of the Democratic Party.
Crockett was born in Dallas, Texas, and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. She earned a B.A. in political science from Spelman College and a J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center. After graduating from law school, Crockett worked as an attorney for the Texas Civil Rights Project and the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund. She was elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 2016 and served until 2022.
In the 2022 election, Crockett ran for the U.S. House of Representatives in Texas's 37th congressional district. She defeated Jessica Cisneros in a runoff election on May 31, 2022. Crockett will now face Republican incumbent Ronny Jackson in the November general election.
